Letter’s of Regret

Part 2

19^th of March, 2225

Wildstar Residences

 

She arrived home and began to get dinner ready for her family. She called his cell several times before arriving home but he didn’t answer her calls. She called his office to find out that he never returned. She knew that he was mad and avoiding her calls. She only hoped that they could talk when and if he came home. The kids soon arrived and dinner drew near. Mark asked about his father and Nova didn’t quite know what to say. She tried calling his cell again and no answer. “Looks like daddy is working late, so let’s just have dinner without him. I’ll put a plate aside for him so when he gets home.” She told them. At dinner she tried to keep busy with asking them question on school and was glad when dinner was over. They all finally went to bed and she went into her room to get ready. It was close to 1 am when she finally made her call to him again. “Derek I don’t know if you will listen to this, but I really want to talk. I’m sorry about today. I know you’re mad but I’d like it very much if you come home and we can talk without a doctor. Just us two alone, I promise that I won’t yell. I’m sorry. Just call me.” She said on his voice mail and then hung up hoping he would call soon. She soon drifted off to sleep without him calling her back.

 

26^th of March 2225

 

Each day she would call his cell and office with no reply. His assistant just simply told her that he was in meetings all day. She could tell that he was lying to her, she heard his voice quiver. Once she overheard him in the back ground telling him to tell her he was in a meeting. How could she make it right between them both when he didn’t want to talk with her? Each night she told the kids that he was out of town, but Alex knew better. He knew something was not right between his parents. “Mom is everything alright with you and dad?” he asked her one night.

“We’re just fine Alex. Your dad is out of town dealing with some work issues.” She told him.

“Come on Mom quit the bullshit. I think I know enough that something is wrong between you and dad.”

“Alex, we just need a little space that’s all. We will work it out. Now don’t go worrying your brothers and sister and concentrate on your speech for graduation.” She told him, but he gave her a concerned face. “We’re alright Alexander. Now go to bed, and remember one thing that we love you very much.” She smiled at her oldest son.

“Okay mom, I’ll back off.” He gave her a smile. “I love you too. Good night.”

 

 

31^st of March, 2225

0135 hours

 

He walked into their room and found her reading a book. He stood in the doorway and tried to smile. “Hey,” he said as he softly knocked on the door. “Sorry I haven’t been home lately I just needed time to think.”

“Hmm, I thought you weren’t coming home tonight either. I have been calling you all over town. Where have you been staying?” She asked placing the book down on the bed.

“I stayed on my office couch the first night and then I stayed at a motel.” He said as he sat down on a chair in their room. “How have the kids been?”

“They’ve asked where you’ve been. I just told them that you had to leave out of town for a few days, work and all. Alex is the only one that knew something was up. I could never keep anything from him. I thought you were never coming back. I mean I understood one or two days but a whole week.”

“Nova I need you to listen to me. There’s something I should tell you. There are a lot of things I haven’t been honest about.”

“What do you mean you haven’t been honest? What haven’t you been honest about?” she asked afraid that it would hurt her. She always sensed that he had more to tell her but feared of hurting her.

“Just listen it’s time that you hear everything about what happened. You wanted to know about my child with her. This is the time to ask me anything and everything. But after tonight I don’t ever want to talk about it again. Deal?”

She nodded her head and asked the first question. “Will there be other surprises with her or anyone else. Did you have twins also with her? Cause I don’t want to find out that there is another child out there.”

“No she only had one. And there was only her, no one else.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about her name?”

“She never told me what she named her. I assumed that we just put Wildstar on the tombstone. Anyway I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.”

“Did you love her? Did you tell her that you loved her?”

“No, never.”

“Did she look like Miku when she was born?”

“A little, her hair was lighter than Miku’s. It really freaked me out that they were both born premature. But as we both know we both didn’t know who Miku’s father was. I didn’t even see her until they had the DNA test. When I saw her I knew she was mine.”

“She does look like you.” But she also knew that Michael had some similar features but the bound that Derek and Miku had was undeniable. She knew the next question would hurt her the most but she had to ask. “Did you sleep with her while she was pregnant?”

He took a deep breath and said, “Yes.”

“I figure as much. So you live as husband and wife. So you did abandon us.”

“I wouldn’t say that.”

“Then what would you say, you were on holiday? We were on a break?” she said with anger. “Did you even think of what we were going through when you sent us that letter saying you weren’t coming home on time?”

“That’s another thing I wanted to talk to you about. That wasn’t the original letter I was going to send.” She looked at him confused. Original letter? She thought. “I debated whether or not to show you these but to move forward I think it’s best to show you them. That way there will be no surprises.” Derek reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the letters that he held onto to give to her. Many times he wanted to throw them out. But he held on to them to remind himself of how his life would have turned out had she survived. His hand shook as he handed them to her. He was grateful that he never had to send the Argo back with those letters. There were 3 letters each with names on it.  But now he was handing them over to her to finally read.

She took the letters in her hand and opened hers first. Her eyes tear up more as she began to read it. She paused for a second and then looked back to finish reading it. She continued,

 

My Dearest Nova,

You have always been my life. The day we married was the best day of my life. When you gave birth to Alex it was another mile stone. DJ and Mark were the icing on the cake. I will always cherish every day we had together. Anyway, I know that you have been waiting for my return. With heavy heart I must let you know that that will never happen. It is complicated but I will try to tell you everything. But before you read on I want to let you know I never wanted to hurt you and I will and always will Love you. My delay here brought things to me that I know if I do return home I have already lost you and my sons. What I have done is inexcusable for I have produced a child with someone else. I know how angry you are right now and I am truly sorry. I want you to know that I never meant for this to happen and I think of you and the boys every minute of the day and night. I know that you could never forgive me so it’s best that I stay here in space. I could come home but a secret like this could never have been kept hidden. I also know that I could never keep this silent from you. And once this comes out I know that you would leave me eventually. I don’t think I can stand that. And to explain to our sons that I screwed up once again with you is something that I never want to do. So I have to be a coward not facing our sons but its best that they see me as a cad then facing them and seeing their faces. I was week for one night and now my marriage is over because of that night. You may think we could have worked through it but ask yourself would we be able to rebuild from that? Please don’t think that I have chosen her over you because I haven’t. I am not staying here. I figure its best that I disappear from both your lives. I love you Nov, I have and always will. Please I ask that sometime in the future that you can forgive me for leaving you and the boys like this. I know your hurt and hate me right now but someday I hope that you will move on and find it in your heart to forgive me for what I have done. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS.

She stood up and walked over to the window and wiped her eyes. It took her 20 minutes to compose herself and then began to read the letter he wrote to their oldest son.

 

Alexander

You are my pride and joy. The day you were born I knew then that you would be a great man like your uncle Alex. He too was a great man. I could never measure up to him and I knew one day that I would not measure up to you. The first time I held you in my arms I never thought I would love anyone more, for the exception of your mother you were my heart. One day I hope that we can talk like men. I don’t know if your mother has told you yet or she has given you this letter. Your mother will be able to explain in her own time about why I never returned. I know that this doesn’t make sense to you right now but someday you will understand. Please Alex, take good care of your mother and brothers. They will need you. You’re the man of the house now I need you to be the man that I know you can be. I want you to follow you dreams of being a pilot or other things. I know your mother will encourage you to strive to be the best. Your mother has done a great job with you guys so far so I know she will continue the good work. I love you Alex, please take care of her for she is my soul and heart. I only wish that I can tell you this in person, but I know that being there to explain will only make me a shame of hurting you all. It’s best this way. Good bye my oldest, I love you.

 It was heartbreaking to read those letters but she needed to read the last letter he handed to her.  She was surprise to the name on the envelope. “Why Michael?” she asked. 

“Just read it.” He said still looking away. She could barely open the next letter. Her hand shook as tears fell onto the paper. She looked up at her husband and saw that he look away as she wiped the tears from her face.  She crossed her legs and sat back taking in a deep breath. She began to read it.

 

Michael,

 

I know that we all haven’t seen eye to eye, my jealously for you had just cause. I’ve always known that you loved my wife. She is an extraordinary woman. There is no one like her. She is a loving, giving person. Each day I fell deeply in love with her. How she faced each day made me look forward to the next. I know that she is hurting right now and I ask you to be by her side. She will be totally destroyed but I know you will be able to help her come around. Yes Spada, I am handing my wife to you. If anything I know you will be there for her. You will not let her down, as much as I have. The boys love you and I can see you are great with them. I want you to make them forget about me. To forget who their father was. If only for a memory I want them to remember me as a strong man willing to fight for them and die for them. Please take care of them for me.

“You were ready to let go of us. Just like that, you were ready to walk away. For what, for her and your daughter? So when you wrote these letters you already made up your mind. You always told me that you would come back to us had she live either way. And all this time you lie to me about it to make me feel better.”

“Yes, but before you say anything think about it. Had I come home and told you would you have stayed with me. Or would you have still left?”

“It doesn’t matter! It wasn’t your decision to make. For you to think of walking away from us without trying, shows you nothing more than a coward. Would you have stayed with her and raised your daughter?”

“My intentions were to leave and never return to you or her. I still don’t know that answer. I can’t go back and see what would have happen. Nova I just want to clear the air and move on with our lives.” He kneeled down in front of her and said. “Please Nova I am willing to answer everything and whatever doubt you have.  I want to just clear the air and move on with you. Not without you. I don’t want to look back to what happened. I want us to work things out. I know I held back a lot but I never wanted to hurt you. When we got back together I just wanted to make you happy. I never wanted to go down that road again.” He picked up her face to look her in the eyes. “Nova I never wanted you to ever see those letters. I carried them to remind me how I hurt you and the kids. And that I will never ever put you in that situation again. Can we please try to make this work?” He asked.

“I don’t know Derek.” She said through her tears. “I, I just don’t know.”

“I see, I guess I was wrong in thinking that we could work this out. I’m sorry I gave you those letters. I guess I regret it now. I just thought that by giving them to you that I could be totally honest with you and our marriage.” He got up and headed into his closet and began to pack some clothes. He stood there looking around it and began to cry. Slowly he gain controlled of himself and continued to pack.

“What are you doing?” he heard her say from behind him.

 “Well it’s obvious that this is not going to work for us so it’s best that I leave. It will give you time to think things out about us.”

She grabbed the clothes from his hands and placed them back where they were. “No I won’t let you off that easily. If you want to make this work then you have to stay here and work with me. If you leave now I don’t ever want you to see you again. I want you to work things out for us not the kids or to make me feel better.  I need YOU not someone to date their way back into my life. We have to work together. Now don’t think this will be easy for you. I just might say things to you that will hurt your feelings. But I love you Derek Wildstar and damn it! I want this to work. Yes those letters were a rude awakening to what your state of mind was back then. But this is now and if you walk out that door I don’t want you to ever look back.” She said in a stern voice.  He stood there shock to what she said. She slipped her arms around his waist and brought him closer to her. “So what’s it going to be? Are you staying or is it totally over between us?”

He hugged her tighter and let out a loud sigh. “Are you sure you want me to stay?” he whispered into her ear. She nodded her head yes and he kissed the top of her head taking her perfume in. “So what do we do now?”

“Hmm, first we take those letters and burn them. I don’t want Alex ever seeing them. Then we start working on us.” She wiped the tears from his eyes and kissed him on the lips.”I’m sorry about what happened at the doctor’s office.”

“Hey don’t sweat it. For some odd reason I knew what I was walking into. Let’s just forget about it.” He softly said into her ear. “Gosh I love you so much. So are we going to continue going back to Doctor Find your Feelings and let your emotions go?” she laughed at his description of her therapist. He smiled wide to see her smile and laugh. “I guess that’s a no.”

“If you’re not comfortable then I will stop going. Anyway I think we are making great head ways here in this room. Who would have thought that your closet is a great place to have therapy? Why don’t we make an appointment this time every night and do our own session?” She said.

“Well Mrs. Wildstar you still have about 30 minutes left of your session. What would you like to talk about?” He slyly said.

“Hmm, I don’t really have anything more to say right now. Maybe you can give me something to work on for homework.” She purred into his ear. He pulled her away and kissed her once more. Slowly he moved his hand over her shoulder and began to take off her clothes. “Here?” she asked.

“Why not? Why ruin the moment?” he kissed her neck and helped her to the floor of his closet. Within seconds they were making passionate love. He missed her so much and she could tell with his love making.

 

 

 

31^st of March, 2225

0730 hours

 

The younger Wildstars sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast and talking about what will happen during the day’s school activities. Their father walked in and headed straight to the coffee pot. They all looked at each other and then back to their father. DAD! They all screamed and race to hug him. “Whoa! Let me at least take a sip of my coffee first.” He laughed and then placed his cup onto the counter. He picked up Miku and hugged her tight. “Dad missed you guys.”

“When did you get home Dad?” DJ asked.

“Late last night. Sorry I tried to come in earlier but couldn’t. But I’m here now and so glad to see you all.” He said smiling at them. Nova walked in a few minutes later and stood in the arch way smiling at them with their father. He looked her way and his smile widened more to see her there. “Okay, finish your breakfast and get ready for school. I’m sure the bus will be coming soon. Alex thanks for taking over while I was gone.” He said and gave him a wink. “Now everyone get your jackets it’s still a little nippy outside. Miku I’ll wait with you on the bus stop.” They ran to the door and waited for their father to come. Nova walked over to the counter and made herself some tea and then smiled at him. “Good morning beautiful.” He hugged her from behind. “It was wonderful waking up next to you again. After I put them on the bus you think we can fool around before I go off to work?”

“Hmm, aren’t you tired from last night? I mean the closet, the bed, out on the beach how much more do you want?” she giggled. “And to let you know I did freeze out there.”

“Well it has been a week. I think I covered about 5 days last night. I have two more days to make up. And sorry I thought I could keep you warm.” He kissed her on the back of the head when Mark walked in.

“ARGH! Aren’t you two too old for that? I have to deal with Alex and Annie making goo-goo eyes at each other and now you two. You guys are going to make me sick!” he grabbed his throat and stuck out his tongue.

They both laughed at him and Derek gave her one more kiss before taking them all to the bus stop. He held Miku hand as he walked down the road to where the bus stopped and waited. “Daddy where did you go for work?” she asked.

“What?”

“Mommy said you were away for work.”

“OH! Yeah, it was pretty far from here. But it doesn’t matter, I’m home now.” He said.

“Did you bring me something back?” She jumped up and down excited. “You always bring me something back when you go away.”

“Hmm, I’m sorry Miku I forgot this time around. But I promise the next time I go away I’ll bring you back two presents.” He knelt down and fixed her hat and scarf. She gave him the funny look she always gave him. She tilted her head slightly to the right and wiggled her nose smiling at him. It was something she always did to him. “Now here comes the bus, have fun in school today. I love you.” He said kissing her on the top of her head.  He watched as she boarded the bus and he waved as it drove down the road. He turned to the house and stood there staring. He thought of the day he brought her here way back when Alex was still alive. How they spent time adding things to the house to make it their own. Captain Avatar would be amazed as to what she did with the place. The guest house was a replica of it. The add-on to house was like it was always there. Captain Avatar would smile that it was filled with laughter of children. From a four bedroom house it became five bedroom with the extended master bedroom. The only thing that was not touch was his office that sat on top of the whole house. He would sit in his office and take in the panoramic view of the ocean and mountains. So many nights’ they spent on the beach making love. So many Christmas with their kids opening their gifts and screaming with joy that they got what they wanted. Derek smiled to himself thinking of all that. He thought of all the happy times in the house. The drama and fights faded in the distance to all those happy moments. He walked into the house and rubbed his shoulder. “Brrr, its cold out there.” He told his wife that sat on the couch sipping her tea. She smiled and patted her hand on the couch. He sat down next to her and put his arm around her shoulder. “Mmm, you’re warm. You know I can use a little heating up.”

“And where would you like for us to try this time. On the roof?” she sarcastically said.

“Well it’s the only place in the house that we haven’t done it. Why not? I know that there is a perfect spot up there for us. Only thing is that if we fall asleep we may wake up on the wrong side of the bed.”

She lifted her eyebrow and blew softly into her cup. “Really? And how do you expect me to climb on the roof?”

“Come on you know I’m joking, right. I wouldn’t expect you to climb up there.”

“What if I tell you I have a contractor coming here next week to see about putting a porch up there?”

“A porch! Where?”

She took him by the hand and dragged him up the stairs to his study. “I was thinking of knocking out this wall and having French doors placed here. The porch will be added over the kids’ rooms.”

“Can they do that?”

“They can do anything. Now,” she pulled him closer. “Think of all the things we can do out there.”

“Wow I like where you’re going with this. Where do I sign?”

 

 

 

 

11^th of May, 2225

Great Island General Hospital

 

 

The Wildstar went back into the swing of things. Derek continued to work at EDF headquarters and Nova returned to the hospital. She was offered head surgical nurse position, but turned it down. She settled for a part time position as an ER nurse. It fit prefect for her she was able to move her schedule to fit her children’s schedules. She liked working in the ER. At any given moment things can turn chaotic and she thrived in it all. She pulled open a curtain and smiled at the little boy sitting on the gurney. “Hello, I’m Nova. And you must be Hiro?” He stuck up his finger and showed her a cut. She gave it look and smiled at him. “It must hurt?” the little boy nodded his head and she smiled at him. “Well I think we can fix it up right now. I promise it won’t hurt. Now let me clean it up and then I am going to put some liquid band aid on it. Then you’ll be all better.” She cooed at him. Quickly she finished cleaning his finger and placed the ointment on his finger. She gave him another smile and said. “All done, does that feel better?” he gave her a front toothless smile and hugged her. “Awe you’re welcome.” She brought him to his mother and gave instruction on keeping it clean. As she handed them their discharge papers she heard a commotion coming from one of the rooms. The sound of Orderlies could be heard racing towards the room. Nova pick up pace and opened the door. There in the middle of the room stood a young marine holding on to his wife.

“GO AWAY!” he yelled at everyone. “THIS IS BETWEEN MY WIFE AND ME!”

Nova waved back the orderlies and said. “Okay let’s all calm down. Now just let her go and whatever it is we can talk about it.”

“GET AWAY!”

She slowly picked up his chart and looked at it. “Sergeant David Casey of the Space Marines, I once knew a Marine name Casey back in 2203. He worked under Sergeant Knox are you related?”

“He was my father.” He said. “You knew my father and Sergeant Knox?”

“I knew both of them. Your father was a fine man.”

“He left and never came back.” He lowered his head thinking of his father.

“Sergeant, can you tell me why you’re doing this?”

“She knows why.”

“Please David don’t do this.” She pleaded with him.

“Shut up, you slept with him. How could you do this to me?” He cried.

“They told me you were dead. I lost all hope when they told me. He was there to help me through it all.”

“You could’ve waited.” He said in anger.

“I did wait and then they told me you were dead. Please David, I would have never slept with him if I knew you were still alive.” She argued back

Nova watched as they argued back and forth. She slowly made her way around. If I can only get closer I can distract him long enough to get him to let her go. She made her way finally facing him from behind and grabbed hold of his arm that held the needle in his hand. She managed to knock the syringe out of his hand and his wife ran for the door. The orderlies ran in to help her as she struggled to get him to the bed. “LET ME GO!” he yelled out. He fought hard with her and the orderlies trying to get out of their grip. With one big forceful shove he pushed Nova across the room. She fell to the ground and twisted her wrist from the impact. She screamed out in pain and tried to get up to help them again. They finally managed to get him down on the bed and strapped him in. Nova got another syringe and sedated him. As things began to calm down she could feel the pain in her wrist and went to the supply room to get herself a wrist ban. She secured it tightly and told the other nurse she was going to have it check out. Making her way to the x-ray room she spoke to the technician and he took her x-ray. “Who’s on call tonight?” she asked him.

“I think it’s Doctor Wong.”

She thanked him and walked down the hall to the chief resident’s room. She knocked softly on the door knowing that he or she could be sleeping. When on call they take whatever time to sleep. Like in battle you never know when you get a chance to do it. “Hello?” she spoke softly not to startle anyone sleeping. Hearing a moan she waited until she heard a voice. “Hold on I’ll be right out.” She heard someone say. She stood outside and waited to see Doctor Wong emerge from the room.

“What can I do for you?” he asked.

“Sorry to wake you Doctor, but I had an accident and just wanted to check with you on the x-ray.” She said.

He took the x-ray and gave it a look, “Hmm, looks like a hair line factor. Let me see the splint.” He looked over her wrist and finally said. “You did a good job there. Just no heavy lifting as you would know. Keep it wrap and come see me at my office out in town in a week. Are you done with your shift?”

“No I have another 3 hours to go.”

“I think you should go home and rest, but if you must stay don’t lift anything. You’re lucky it didn’t break completely.”

“Thank you Doc.”

“Not a problem, see you in a week and no excuses. I know how you nurses can be. You tend to act like doctors and treat yourselves. I will be expecting you.” He waved his finger at her.

“I will be there. I promise.” Nova smiled at the little man.

 

 

Her day ended quickly and she went home still feeling the days effect in her wrist. Hurry into her room she shower and changed to be ready for her kids to come home from school. Misha started to prepare dinner for her while Miku played outside on the deck. Nova walked into the kitchen and smiled, “Hello everyone how was your day?” she asked. Miku ran into the room and through herself into her mother arms. “How are you feeling today?” she asked her daughter that was home sick from school.

“Better can I go back to school soon?” she said tilting her head to the right wiggling her nose and smiling.

“Were you a good girl for Ms. Misha?”

Miku smiled and nodded her head to her mother. She looked at her mother hand and pointed. “Mommy what happened?”

“Oh nothing honey, just a little boo boo from work. I’ll be alright. Now let me help Misha with dinner before your brother’s and daddy come home.” Misha and Nova worked together preparing dinner for the family. Little by little they all walked in to the house. Derek was the last to arrive. Putting his briefcase down on the chair he walked into the kitchen. He walked behind his wife and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Mmm, what’s for dinner it smells good.” He purred into her ear. “Or should I ask what’s for dessert?” He turned her around and kissed her on the lips.

“Dessert will not be served until later tonight.” she said smirking at him.

He took hold of her hand and finally noticed her splint. “What the hell happened to you?”

“There was a little mishap at the hospital today. I just got the short end of the stick. I’m fine Derek, just a hair line fracture on my Proximal Phalanx. It will heal, so don’t worry.”

“So what happened?”

“Just a Marine…you know how they can be.”

“What Marine?”

“Now don’t you go pulling rank on him. He was going through a hard time. His wife was told that he was killed in action and she moved on. Needless to say he came back from the dead not liking the fact that she moved on with his best friend. Hence the hurt wrist.” She told him.

“I see, well as long as you’re alright, but I would expect this to happen in space under battle not here on Earth, especially in a hospital.” He said looking at her hand with concern.

“Derek are you telling me to quit because that’s never going to happen. And going back to headquarters is Sooo out of the question. That place tends to suck the life out of people. Plus the kids need me and they are willing to work around my schedule.”

“We can arrange for you to work at your own schedule if that’s what you want.”

“Those are always the famous last words. Meanwhile I’ll find myself coming home just in time to tuck in Miku. No thanks, sir. Now get ready for dinner.” She kissed him on the lips and turned him out the kitchen. Within the hour they were sitting down eating dinner and they all asked her about her hand. She quickly dismissed their concern and changed the subject. They talk about school and Alex coming graduation from the academy. Nova felt a tear come to her eye knowing that her son was going to leave soon for college.

“Oh come on Mom, it’s not like I’m going to the states like Dee or Annie. I’m just going to north part of Great Island. It’s only an hour away and I can come home. Which reminds me, can I move into the guest house?”

“The guest house? Why? I don’t see any reason for you to move into the guest house.” Nova said.

“Nov,” Derek looked over to her and shook his head. “Alex we will talk about it and let you know in the morning.”

“I already thought about it and the answer is no.” she said with a stern voice.

“Alex we’ll let you know.” He said looking at his wife. Alex looked to his parents and wondered if a fight was coming on. His father smiled back at him and gave him a wink. “Your mom and I will talk about it tonight. We’ll give you our answer in the morning. Now let’s all help clean up and Miku Daddy will read you a story tonight.” Nova rolled her eyes at him and began to clear the table. As they settle for the night, Derek watched as she undressed. “What gives with Alex not moving into the guest house?”

“I just don’t think it’s a good idea. Anyway he has a room here, why does he need to move into the guest house. What will we do when we have guest?”

“Nova he’s growing up and he wants his privacy.”

“He gets privacy here in his room.”

“That’s not what I’m talking about. He may want to entertain someone. He’s not a child anymore.”

“Entertain who. Annie will be in the states for college. She may not even come home as much as they want her to. Harvard is not easy she will have to study hard to become a lawyer.”

“I’m not talking about Annie.”

“Then who? As far as I know they are still together.”

“What makes you think that they will stay together living on separate parts of the world? It’s not easy and you out of anyone would know. He may want to break it off or she may want to. And IF that happens I’m sure he would like to entertain.” He tried to explain.

“Derek I still think that it’s not a good idea. I don’t think I can see him with anyone else.”

Taking a deep breath he knew it was going to be a long night. “Nova so you think that you were my one and only. We both know better than that. Don’t get me wrong you saving yourself for marriage was special for me. I was happy that you did. But had I not experiment I don’t think I would be as much of a caring lover. Maybe he wants to live a little.”

“And what happens if he hooks up with an old Julie Tolbert and she happens to accidently get pregnant. His life will be over and I won’t let that happen.”

“Babe, Alex is a smart kid. He is not going to get himself trapped like that. You did a great job raising him. I don’t think he will let someone take advantage of him like that. So relax, he’s a good kid.” He took her into his arms and kissed her on the lips. “Come on, he’s not a baby anymore, he’s a man.”

“He’s not a man, he’s only 18 years old.”

“Okay he is a YOUNG MAN, but he is not a baby. You have to let him live a little. And it’s a perfect set up. He will be close to home and not out in town. Come on, let him move in. Anyway when was the last time we actually use it?” He snuggle his face on her neck making her laugh. “Come on Nov, please.” He said softly into her ear and then kissed her neck again. Slowly he made his way down her neck and then back to her lips. “Come on, mom, please.”

“Stop it,” she giggled at him. “Your worst then they are.”

“What do you say?” He softly said as he rubbed her back pulling her closer to him.

“Oh alright, he can move into the guest house. But only after the summer.”

“I think he will agree on that. Thank you, Mom.” He then kissed her hard on the lips and threw her on the bed making her scream with laughter.

 

 

16^th of May, 2225

 

 

Nova and Derek stood in their kitchen making dinner for the kids. “Is Alex still working on his speech?” Derek said as he helped her in the kitchen.

“I haven’t asked but I think he is still working on it. It’s not easy writing those. You want to make sure that it will be remembered for years to come. Did you order his graduation gift?”

“I did, but don’t you think that it’s a little flashy for him. I mean really Nov, a car?”

“How is he going to come home? He needs something to drive. And I need my car back.”

“You have your Mini.”

“I’m not talking about the Mini, the family car is for the family. Suppose Misha needs to go somewhere for me. How is she going to go? In her junk car that can barely make it up the hill?”

“So what you’re saying is Misha is getting the family car, Alex is getting a new BMW and you get to keep your car?”

“If it’s the money you don’t have to worry about it. My parents are getting it for him.”

“Now you just made me feel like crap. I can get my own son a car. It just I think it’s,”

“Oh for Christ sakes, they are not buying him a house. My parents want to give it to him so let them. We are paying for the college.”

“It’s not much Nov, anyway my rank alone gives him the free ride.”

She sat down on at the kitchen table and sighed. “That’s another thing I have to tell you. He doesn’t want to use that free ride.”

“WHAT! What do you mean he doesn’t want to use the grant?”

“He wants someone that could use it someone that will make a good officer and doesn’t have the finances to go anyway, he already waivered the grant to him.”

She watched as her husband’s eyes widen and could tell he was starting to get mad. “He did what?”

“Derek calm down. It’s not like we don’t have a college fund for him. You have to admit it’s very admirable of him to turn down the money. It shows he has character.”

“But I was hoping to get a boat with that money.” He pouted.

“Grow up Admiral, he is your son and the money was there for their college not a boat.” She touched his nose and smiled at him. He looked like their son when Alex was 5 years old and didn’t get his way. “Cheer up Admiral, we can always use my parent’s yacht when we want to.”

“But I want my own boat,” he whined.  Rolling her eyes at him she went back to preparing dinner. They heard the phone ring and Nova yelled out to their son to pick up the phone. Mark yelled back across the room to his mother. “Mom, its Doctors Wong’s office.”

“Can you take a message I’m a little busy in the kitchen.” She yelled back.

“How’s your hand babe,” Wildstar asked her as he helped her take out a roast out of the oven. He placed on top of stove and then took her hand and rubbed it.

“It’s better, thanks.” She smiled as he continued to hold her hand and then kissed it. “I need you to get the plates down.”

“Anything for you my queen.” He leaned in and kissed her on the lips.

“Aw come on, can’t you wait till we are all asleep.” They heard Mark say as he entered the room. “Really you two kiss more than Alex and Annie. It’s so disgusting, I think I’m gonna puke.” He gagged at them.

“Don’t be a smart ass, what did the Doctor say?” His father asked.

“Oh yeah, he said that he won’t be there but his associate will be there to take you. Something about he had to go see his gulf cart.” Mark said.

Kissing him on the top of his head she said. “Thank you, now go tell your brothers to come to dinner.”
